About Godstone Farm
History & Background
Godstone Farm was established over 35 years ago when Jackie Flaherty inherited a sum of money and saw an opportunity to purchase land near Godstone. The farm was acquired when it was on sale as 80 acres of predominantly poor, sloping land with minimal usable buildings.
At the time of purchase, the property included a small cottage and a large “monster” house that comprised different sections: a Victorian wing with four well-appointed bedrooms, a Georgian wing complete with proper plumbing, and an older central section that was locally listed (despite its leaking roof and thin, lathe and plaster walls). This mix reflected the farm’s varied history and provided a unique foundation for future use.
Early Vison
Recognizing the potential of using the farm as an educational resource, Jackie conducted market research – including a visit to local schools, where it was discovered that many children had little knowledge of traditional farming practices. This discovery, however, led to the invention of what we all know today as the Godstone farm & play barn.
The first animals introduced to the farm (two cats to control mice, a Gloucester Old Spot pig affectionately named “Sunday Lunch,” and a Highland Cow) were chosen to provide hands-on, authentic farming experiences.
The farm’s mission was to allow school groups and families to experience a real working farm—feeding animals, hand milking, and even experiencing aspects of farm life that many urban children had never seen before.
Godstone Farm Attractions and Activities
The farm consists of a lot of fun-filled activities you would enjoy. With multiple sight attractions to keep the whole family engaged, regardless of age differences and personal preferences. Some sight attractions and activities on the farm include Animal Encounters & Petting Zoo, Play Areas & Indoor Attractions, Special Events, & Seasonal Activities.

Animal Encounters & Petting Zoo
As I mentioned earlier in this blog post, Godstone Farm is filled with a variety of engaging and fun activities. One highlight is the animal encounter, which is perfect for kids who love animals and aren’t afraid to spend time with the friendly and lovable creatures on the farm. This activity is a great choice for anyone looking to connect with animals!
At the farm, you can find a variety of friendly animals, including horses, donkeys, llamas, alpacas, goats, sheep, pigs, cows, meerkats, a skunk, rabbits, guinea pigs, and ferrets. Don’t miss the Reptile House, where you can have encounters with bearded dragons, iguanas, snakes, geckos, and a range of mini beasts and arachnids.
You’ll also see many birds, such as chickens, ducks, turkeys, and peafowl. It’s an ideal day out for nature lovers!
You can participate in animal experiences, including brushing, oiling, and feeding the pigs, feeding meerkats, and learning about fascinating reptiles.
Play Areas & Indoor Attractions
Godstone Farm offers more than just exciting animal encounters and adventures; it features a variety of play areas designed to entertain children of all ages and interests. The farm’s playground ensures that every family member can have fun.
Some standout play areas at Godstone Farm include climbing frames, giant slides, and swings, all of which will keep kids engaged and active. Remember how I mentioned that the farm’s early vision incorporated educational resources?
One of the unique features that embodies this idea is the giant sandpit, complete with diggers and toy sand tools. This not only entertains children but also teaches them teamwork and demonstrates that traditional farming techniques can be enjoyable. And here’s something special: Godstone Farm has a Dinosaur Trail featuring over 40 life-sized dinosaurs inspired by the children’s book series “The World of Dinosaur Roar” by Peter Curtis.

Special Events & Seasonal Activities
The farm hosts exciting outdoor and indoor events each holiday, offering an action-packed experience that maximizes the value of every dollar you spend on your trip.
Here are some seasonal events I highly recommend you check out:
